You have now entered- “The Science Zone!“
Our Invention Convention was a HUGE success! We had so many amazing inventions from our intermediate students that it was very difficult for teachers to choose their classroom winners. Twenty-six students participated in our school competition on April 3, where high school students came over from Anclote High School to be our judges.
Congratulations to our 8 Sunray Invention Convention winners that will represent us at the Pasco County Young Inventors Fair on April 27, 2013 at Wesley Chapel High School. These winners are (in no particular order):
Mary from Mrs. Wall’s class, Benjamin and Eryka from Mrs. Skelly’s class, Jackson from Mrs. Frederick’s class, Ravyn from Mrs. Schuster’s class, Jake from Ms. McQuatter’s class, Euloqio from Ms. Starkman’s class, and Jackie from Ms. Birkett’s class.
Update: At the District competition, Jake got 1st place; Ravyn, Benjamin, and Jackson got 2nd place; Jacklyn, Eryka, and Euloqio got 3rd place; and Mary got 4th place. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We are so proud of you all!!!
Throughout this year, each class has been displaying their science knowledge by creating science videos that are shown weekly on our morning news, which you can view below on our website. As you can see, we really do have some future scientists and “movie stars” on our hands!
Earlier in the school year, grades 1-5 all visited MOSI on an exciting field trip of exploration. Our 5th graders were very excited to visit Fivay High School to interact with a mock crime scene and learn more about their Criminal Justice Program. Also, 5th grade visited the Energy Lab at the Energy Marine Center (EMC), where they were able to explore solar, wind, and geothermal energy. They even got to invent solar-powered boats from water bottles! To further connect to energy, both 4th and 5th graders visited Sun Toyota to learn how it was built and operates as a totally GREEN facility. We also had a visitor, MEL, a mobile energy lab that came to our school to show all intermediate students about the benefits of solar power.
As the year winds down, we are already planning wonderful things for next year. Stay tuned….
